Introduction to Information Communication Technologies (ICTs)
and Wekosystems, a new organisational strategy
Saturday, 3 May 10:30am to 1:30pm
This workshop will begin with an exploration of what Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) can bring to education. Commonly referred to as computers, when combined with the Internet, these are much more than word-processing and calculating machines. They are tools with the potential to bring joyful self-directed learning into schools and homes.
As a result of ICTs, new ways of organising work and managing working relationships are being explored and the Wekosystem or wiki ecosystem is a pioneering effort to establish an alternative economic unit. Democratically managed while ensuring transparency and accountability, this will give a new form of freedom to individuals working together in a system. The management of a wekosystem takes place without a centralised structure. It consists of two levels of management, macro and micro levels and these levels are not hierarchical, but on the same plane. The micro lives nested within the macro.
Wiki Ocean is a path-breaking enterprise based in Pune which is one of the first organisations in the world set up as a wekosystem. This is a radically new approach to management which would be of interest to anyone looking for better ways to manage work and resources, whether it is a school or a business or an NGO.
The resource persons for this workshop will be Shirish Agarwal of Wiki Ocean (wekosystem.org) and Chandita Mukherjee (cometmedia.org) of COSMOS, the New Media wing of Comet.
