Stanislaus Staff Healthcare Initiative

The SSESA Teachers Healthcare Program was born in 2007 after the hospitalization of our beloved Joe Maumkel (Dr Joe) in 2006. Our then President and Principal Fr Lawrie Ferrao SJ appealed to alumni of St. Stanislaus to help Dr Joe with his hospital bills. An amout of Rs1.73 lakhs was donated by our alumni from across the world.

The SSESA Teachers Healthcare Program was the brainchild of alumnus Vikram Moorjani (1985 batch) who worked from the USA with local alumni Gerry Mascarenhas (1977 batch) and Francis D'silva (1977 batch) (Norway) to formulate, structure and drive the program. It was Mahavir Chopra (Class of 1996) with a background in insurance who has helped sustain the Healthcare program till date.

Started in 2007 covering 94 serving and retired Teachers, Staff and ex-Principals, the program presently covers 150 teachers, workers and ex-principals in 2016-17. It is pertinent to note that we have to cover serving teachers and staff in order to get coverage for our retired teachers. Without the younger teachers and staff our retired teachers would never get Healthcare coverage.

Some unique features of the Teachers Healthcare Program are

  • senior retired teachers aged 80+ are covered
  • no medical screening for those covered by the scheme
  • pre-existing illnesses covered from the first year itself
